Lateral secure planning permission for landmark Whitechapel scheme

We are delighted to share that our Cavell Street life sciences development has secured planning permission — a major milestone in establishing Whitechapel as a world-class life sciences cluster.
This landmark scheme will deliver a cutting-edge R&D facility in the heart of Whitechapel, creating a dynamic hub where science, healthcare, and community come together.
Cavell Street has been designed as more than just a building: the active ground floor will host an atrium reception, café, knowledge centre, conference facilities, exhibition space, and a new public route connecting to the adjacent Silk District, opening the site up as part of the wider neighbourhood.
We are also working closely with Barts Life Sciences and Barts Health NHS Trust to align the scheme with the Royal London Hospital’s therapeutic priorities. This ensures that research and innovation within the building can directly benefit patient care, as well as supporting wider community outcomes across Tower Hamlets.
With planning now secured, we look forward to bringing this vision to life — making Cavell Street a cornerstone of the Whitechapel Life Sciences Cluster and a catalyst for inclusive growth, innovation, and social impact.
